In the Autumn of 2008, the Sir Ratan Tata Foundation at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) will invite applications for the `Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship’ now in its twelfth year. Applicants should be established scholars in the social sciences with experience of research on South Asia.
The `Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship’ will be for a period of up to eight months, preferably starting 1st October 2009, and will be based at the Asia Research Centre at the LSE.
The Fellow will be expected to engage in research on a topic under the following themes:
Poverty, Inequality, Human Development and Social Exclusion
Quality of Public Life
Regional Disparities
Identities – Gender, Ethnicity, Language
Economy and Environment
Preference will be given to topics that focus on contemporary social and economic concerns of South Asia.

Application Process:
-Applications will not be accepted via e-mail or fax under any circumstances.
-Applications should include a curriculum vitae in no more than three pages and an outline of proposed research in no more than three pages. Please use A4-sized plain paper only.
-Please do not staple your application.
-Applicants should also give the names and addresses of two referees, familiar with their work, to be contacted by the Chairman.

Selection Process:
-Applicants should hold a PhD or comparable qualifications andexperience – the fellowship is not intended for students registered fora degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.
-The Fellowship is open to candidates from South Asia, that is, the SAARC region.
-The tentative final date for receipt of applications is Monday 14 January 2009. Late applications will not be accepted.
-The successful candidate should be informed of the decision by the end of March 2009.
Amount of Scholarship:
The Fellow will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of up to 1500 GBP a month, the exact amount depending on qualifications; and will be provided with office space and access to research facilities at the School.
